I hate cookie banners. I guess you do too. That's why I try to do everything in order not to show one to you.

But I still want to understand how memStep is being used — which parts are helpful, and where people drop off.

To balance that, here's what I do:

  • No third-party analytics (Google, Facebook, etc.)
  • No cookies, unless technically required
  • No profiling, fingerprinting, or advertising
  • Matomo for self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics
  • Basic server logs (like requests and errors)

If you leave your email (optional), I'll only use it to send you login/access links. That's it.

1. Who We Are

memStep is a solo project by Anvar, built in Switzerland.

2. What We Collect

a) Usage Data (Matomo)

We use Matomo to analyze how memStep is used. It is configured to:

  • Not use cookies
  • Respect your browser's Do Not Track
  • Not store IP addresses or personal identifiers

b) Server Logs

We collect minimal logs like request timestamps and error traces. This helps keep things running smoothly.

c) Email (Optional)

If you enter your email, it will be stored securely and used only to send access links. Nothing else.

3. Why We Collect It

  • To help you use the app (email-based login)
  • To understand usage patterns
  • To improve the service and fix bugs

4. Your Rights (aka: you're in control)

Depending on where you live, privacy laws give you certain rights. If you're in the EU, these come from the GDPR. If you're elsewhere, similar rights may apply. Either way, we try to treat everyone the same.

  • Ask what personal data we have about you
  • Request corrections
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Withdraw consent
  • Object to certain processing
  • Complain to a data protection authority
